Béa In A Box

I was allowed to sleep in until 0626 this morning until Rina walked into my room. The husband is away and I know how to make the best of our king-size bed to myself: Find that sweet spot in the middle that smells of my husband, bury my nose in the blankets, spread out into a star shape and doze off until one of the girls get up or until my alarm goes off! (Who am I kidding, when you have young kids, you don’t need an alarm!)

I got up, made the girls breakfast and got them ready so we could drop Rina off at preschool. I had a plan. Drop-off is at 0900 and there is a 0930 Crossfit class. I wanted to go to that class with Béatrice and see how she would behave during the class. I had extra pull-ups (the diapers, not the Crossfit move), some snacks, a stuffed monkey and an old iPhone with some games on it for her. Turns out, she was just happy sitting close-by, where she could watch me huff and puff! She behaved really well and I’m hoping to repeat the experience on Wednesday. I, on the other hand, felt gassed for some reason. Between having to care for the girls by myself and having to run errands constantly, I’m falling behind in my water consumption and I think it may be why I felt like a ton of brick today.  The people at the 0930 class were all people I didn’t know and they were patient enough to wait for me to be done with the WOD before they started to pick up their stuff. Here’s what we did:

Skill: Front Squat 5×5 E90S

Last time I had done a set of 5×5 front squat was back in August and I had finished at 100#. I was aiming at 105#, but it just didn’t happen. I decided to try to focus on my form instead and, since I felt like I had nothing left in me, I stayed behind on my weights. Here’s what I did:

85#-90#-90#-95#-95#

I repeated both the 90# and 95# because I wasn’t happy with my butt. I have a tendency to dip forward at the bottom of the squat which, then makes me get up from the squat “stripper-style”. Not super pronounced, but I want to correct that bad habit before I start increasing my load. It was hard to focus on these as Béatrice was sitting further at the beginning and we had a false alarm about a diaper change during my warm-up. Meh! What do you expect when you bring a toddler to the Box. At least, I got moving and that’s the most important part.

WOD: Wobble Bobble

I did this one FG with the red and purple bands. The wallballs are still killing me. I love to hate wallballs. I know they must have a purpose of some sort and we’re supposed to work on our weaknesses, but I still suck at them and I still dislike them very much. I used the 14# ball for them and on my 3rd round, I was seriously wondering how I was going to finish the round and do another one. One of the boys started cheering me on and said:

Think of all the gains! GAINS!

That made me laugh and I just kept plucking at them. I caught the ball so many times with my neck and chest, I came home with a huge black line of grime and sweat in my trachea. Super attractive, lemme tell you! (Why doesn’t anybody tell me these things before I leave the Box? I guess that’s one drawback to not having mirrors plastered all over the place)! I still had 20 pull-ups to finish off. I tried o do sets of 5 and I managed to do that, except for the last ones that I had to break into 3 & 2. I finished well after everybody else at 16:23, but at least, I finished. I wanted to quit so many times during thee wallballs that I honestly don’t care that I’m dead last. I’m just proud that I finished at all.

I then picked up Béatrice (with all her gear), rushed home to shower the wallaby grime away, switched a load of laundry, start my spaghetti sauce for dinner tonight in the slow cooker and left again to go get Rina at pre-school. We then ran some errands, grabbed lunch and came back home. My cousin was on a business trip from Ontario and I had the pleasure of his company for dinner. It was short, but it was nice to catch up with him. I always cherish these little visits, it’s nice to catch up with family and have grown-up conversations once-in-a-while! 😉

Alright, enough blogging, time for this Mama to put her feet up and relax on the couch!

Pushing Myself

I now have completed 2 weeks of my detox (aka Fast-Metabolism Diet) and I am down 5.8lbs. The best part is I don’t need to take my heartburn medication on a daily basis like I used to. Score!

I showed up to the Box this morning and got ready for this:

WOD: Interinvention

6 rounds of 20 sec. work followed by 40 sec. rest. Add 1min rest after each round:

  • Shoulder to Overhead (I did push jerks) @ 65#
  • DUs
  • Hang power cleans @ 65#

With the above weights, I was doing the FG2. It was the first time I was using 65# for a WOD. It was tough and my reps were low, but I knew they would be going with a heavier weight and the DUs really killed me. I only managed 3 and 4 / rounds, but they were controlled ones and not my usual spastic ones. Maybe I’ll master them this year… I managed a total combined reps of 91. Like I said, I’ll probably be the lowest on the board, but I pushed myself with the weight.

That’s pretty much it for this post. I don’t have any interesting stories about my little ones and I’ll be doing the housewives thing today with some cooking and laundry. Looking forward to relaxing on the couch with my knitting! 🙂

One more thing. A friend posted this on Facebook. I need to get me one of these! 😉

Feeling Good

So, I started this 28-day detox last Monday (from Haylie Pomroy’s The Fast Metabolism Diet). It’s pretty much a paleo kind of diet that allows for legumes. It splits the week in 3 phases according to the days:

  • Phase 1: Monday and Tuesday
  • Phase 2: Wednesday and Thursday
  • Phase 3: Friday, Saturday, Sunday

You eat certain foods according to the phase of the week. Some days are high carbs (sprouted grain and fruits), some days are heavy protein and some days are a combo of carbs, protein and healthy fats. You have to cut processed sugars, gluten, dairy, soy and caffeine and I did that cold turkey (cold cut just for you Krista if you happen to read 😉 ) I had a massive headache for 3 days at the beginning of all this last week, but I’m now fine. I still miss my coffee though and that’s one thing I plan on re-integrating when I’m done with this.

So far, I’ve lost 4.2lbs in a week, so yeah, the detox is working. I also feel more energized and felt like I had more stamina this morning during the WOD. All bonuses if you ask me! It takes a lot of planning and prep, but it’s giving me results so I’m going to stick with it and re-assess at the end of the 28 days.

Here’s what I had stamina for this morning:

I worked on my DUs and managed to slow down my speed on the jumps in order to have the same speed when I do a single and when I do a DU. I managed to get 10, not in a row, but in a much smaller time than before, so I guess it’s slowly working. I just have to keep at it! (Thanks Linda and Mark for the inspiration and the tips)

Skill: Push Jerk 6×3 E90s

Those felt good at the beginning and I found myself struggling with 70#, but I kept going and managed a new PR at 80#. My shoulders were definitely feeling it!

55#-60#-65#-70#75#-80#

WOD: Escalator

There were a lot of us so 7 of us agreed to do the front squat from the ground instead of from the rack. The one perk was that if we clean squatted it, that squat counted towards our reps. I scaled with these modifications:

  • HSPU: I did those from 2×5# plates + 1 yoga block stacked. I did a mix of strict and kipping reps
  • C2B: red and blue bands of those. I managed to string 5 in a row
  • Front squat: 65# from the ground

I knew I probably wouldn’t be able to finish all rounds within the time cap, but I was pretty happy with where I ended up: 8 full rounds + 5 HSPU.

All this HSPU gave me quite the hairdo and I only realized once I got home:

Instant pompadour!

Instant pompadour!

I got a chance to talk to Coach Phil (sub-ing in for Coach Caleb) about the Open coming up and I think I will register in the scaled category in order to be able to do more of the workout and enjoy myself!

Alright, I have to leave the computer in order to cook some meals in advance for this week since I’m back to work in a few days!

Lifting Test Week

I was up at 0300 and never managed to fall back asleep after that. I had just mentioned to some co-workers that I was sleeping so much better since I had started my detox. That’ll teach me to brag! I finally got up at 0445 and got ready for the Skill Plus class. I forgot to take a picture of the board, but the warm-up was a challenge for me today. Here’s what we had to do, with an empty bar:

3 rounds of

  • 5 high snatch
  • 5 OHS
  • 5 power cleans

The high snatch were so freakin’ awkward. I had the hardest time just shrugging that bar up, without dipping. It did get me warm though, so I guess that’s good!

This week was Test/Technique week i.e. we could chose to either test ourselves on our lifts with a 5x1RM E3M (starting at 90%) on both lifts or keep working on the technique with a 5×2 E3M (starting at 85%).

I chose to test myself on my Snatch and work on technique for the Clean & Jerk. Here’s what I did:

Snatch Test 5×1 RM Test

I started on my previous PR, so I guess I just had to get comfortable from there and push forward:

55#-55#-60#-60#-65#

I managed the one rep at 65, but it was so ugly, I kind of just pressed it up before going into the OHS, so I definitely no-repped myself on that one. It’s still a 5# PR on my hardest lift, and I only started the Skills Plus classes about a month ago, so I’m happy with that!

We then warmed up for our Clean & Jerk. My previous 1RM was 70# and I wanted to work on my technique towards that weight today.

Coach Caleb had me start at 65#, so once again, I just had to push through (I started at 92% of my 1RM):

Clean & Jerk 5×2 E3M Technique

65#-65#-65#-70#-70#

Coach Caleb told me to maintain contact with my thighs and I went off to the side in-between rounds to practice with a dowel. Crazy what a little muscle memory can do to your lift! I was done though. I’ve been in a fog since I started my detox on Monday and today is actually the 1st day I don’t have a headache at lunchtime. Here’s hoping I’m done with the sugar and caffeine withdrawal and I’ll be able to go about my day normally. I didn’t feel weak lifting today, but I could definitely tell I needed a hearty breakfast upon returning home. I made myself an egg-white omelet and although it wasn’t very satisfying taste-wise, it did the trick. I cleaned up the upstairs, finished folding the laundry and then took the girls to play outside. Rina is getting really good at kicking the soccer ball between my legs and Béatrice is getting better at kicking the ball period. We had a good lunch and now, they are doing puzzles while I’m blogging. They will go for nap/quiet time soon and I will go for (hopefully) a good nap as well before heading in to work tonight.

Resting

I did my night shift at work and came home yesterday morning to a more relaxed routine. Rina is still on break from pre-school which meant we didn’t have to rush to get everybody ready and out the door. I helped Ben out with breakfast, showered and came downstairs to boil water for my hot water bottle. Sometimes, I wonder what I’d do without my hot water bottle. I usually shove it at the foot of the bed to keep my feet warm so I can get a few decent hours of sleep. Without it, I’d probably be up many times, having to run to the washroom because of cold feet (yes, cold feet make me pee, go figure). As I was waiting for the kettle to be done, Rina came downstairs and announced she had a surprise for me. I filled up my bottle and went upstairs with her. She had gotten everything ready for me to get into be: turned down the blankets, got my earplugs and eye mask ready on my night stand. She truly is the mothering kind of 4-year old! Lol! Ben and both the girls tucked me in and I slept for 4 hrs before getting up again and continue with our day. I had a bit of a runny nose all night last night, but nothing too crazy

After a more solid 7hrs of sleep, I woke up this morning, made a hearty breakfast and headed into the Box for a fun WOD.

Skill: Hang Power Snatch 5×3 E90s

Coach Cam was coaching us this morning and he got me to demonstrate the skill for everyone. Talk about pressure to perform! 😉 I warmed up by doing the demo with an empty bar and then with 40# (where I wanted to start. Coach Cam said we could do 1 OHS at the end of every set. I managed to do everything at 60#, a new PR for me! I did my reps like this:

40#-45#-50#-55#-60#

I guess those Oly lifting classes are started to pay up!

WOD: Jackita

I got paired up with Chris and Kirsten for this one and I started up with the strict pull-ups. I did all mine with the blue and purple band and managed to do 12 in the 1st round before moving to the thrusters, where I was consistent through all rounds and managed 8 reps on each rounds. The Erg was probably my demise in this WOD, but 1 min went by fast and then, it was back to the pull-ups. I only managed 6 reps before going back for 8 more thrusters and the Erg again. I was getting ready to gear up for something longer when Coach Cam screamed that we were on to the last round. I felt like I should have been going for another 2 rounds or something. I managed 8 pull-ups, 8 more thrusters and the Erg one last time. We totalled 116 cals on the erg and with the other reps combined, managed a total score of 297. Not too bad!

I honestly think the Skills Plus class are starting to make a difference. I felt good during the thrusters and was really using my hips on the drive up.

I came home, showered and made my food menu for the week as well as the grocery list to go with it. I had a quick lunch and went to get groceries by myself! What a luxury!

The girls napped, I prepped some food for my cooking day tomorrow and Monday and folded some laundry before sitting and knitting on the couch, while bingeing on Gilmore Girls! Ben made a ton of homemade doughnuts (we gave some to our tenant and 2 neighbours, that’s how much he made!) and now the house smells like fried oil and I’m nauseous. I’m not really hungry and I’m not sure if it’s because of the smell or if I’m getting sick, but I’ll stick with soup for dinner tonight and will take it easy for the rest of the evening. I’m drinking lots of water and hoping to drown whatever is putting me under the weather. Keeping my fingers crossed it works!

Living The Life!

I have to admit, having 2 weeks off from work feels pretty fantastic! I will have gone to Crossfit 4x this week by tomorrow (3 WODS and 1 Skills Plus class) and I’ve had time to cook some pretty fantastic meals, which, in return has given results in my fat loss (almost 3lbs since last week). 🙂

Below is my favourite breakfast as of late: Nuevos Rancheros

Yum!

2 scrambled eggs, 2 tbsp grated cheddar, 2 tbsp salsa, cherry tomatoes and a tangerine. Add a coffee and you’re good to go! Yum!

Here’s what I plan to cook for tonight:

To top it all off, I’ve had a really good time just hanging out with my girls and we’ve been up to some pretty cool adventures this week. We’ve had their picture taken with Santa at the mall, we’ve browsed through the toys section at Walmart and Toys R Us.We’ve put up our Christmas tree:

She's so excited about Santa!

We’ve sang some carols:

and Rina even wrote a letter to Santa (with some help):

I’ve gotten tons of cuddles from the girls and it warms my heart whenever they tell me: “Mama, you’re my best friend”.

This morning was my Skills Plus class at Crossfit and I had no idea what we were up to, but I was ready for it! We did Power Clean & Jerk 5×2 E2M @75%. My 75% weight was supposed to be 52#, but I rounded it up to 55#. It was challenging. I need to remember to keep the bar along my body in the power clean and split a bit wider in the jerk.

Photo 2014-12-04, 9 19 18 AM

Then, we moved on to the Bear complex 5×2. It was my first time actually tackling the bear complex and I was a bit apprehensive. I decided to stay at 55# for this. It was challenging, but in a good way. Again, I need to remember to keep the bar close to my body during the squat clean and actually drop under the bar to catch it. Also, I have a tendency to cushion the bar on my spine in the back squat portion of the complex and I need to remember to cushion it on my shoulder muscles instead. So much to learn, but I’m really glad I get to learn the technique in a more detailed fashion!

Photo 2014-12-04, 9 46 59 AM

You see! I’m having such a blast when I don’t have to work! I also find that I’m a lot more patient with the girls too! Win-win! If only I could find a way to keep it up for the rest of my life! 😉

Easy Gives Nothing

What a busy two days it’s been.

It started off at 0700 yesterday morning for this:

Skill: HSPU Practice (I did 5 sets of 5).

I started off with a yoga block and 5×5# plates, then I slowly decreased it to a yoga block and 3×5# plates. It was hard to do the reps and I need to remember to push my head through at the end of the push.

WOD: Mindy

I had done this one back in March and I had done so much better back then. I’m not sure what happened yesterday, but I did poorly. Maybe it was because I did 4x strict pull-ups with the red and blue bands for each round instead of 6 kipping one. Anyway, I finished with a score of 183 (6 full rounds + 3 box jumps) whereas I had done 209 back in March. It seemed like I was keeping a good pace too, conscious about not taking too many or too long breaks. I was a bit disappointed, but I still felt good about getting out there and moving.

I came back home to this:

Rina had gotten up to no good while Ben was still in bed and decided to cut Béatrice’s hair. This is what she used to look like:

Photo 2014-09-27, 12 42 59 PM

and now, she looks like she’s sporting the hairdo from Dumb and Dumber. I was lucky enough that  fellow Crossfitter who is also a hairdresser had some free time to try and arrange BeZU’s hairdo today. Her fringe is still very short, but it doesn’t look as bad as it was before. I miss her longer soft hair though!  😦

Then, I had to rush home, shower, stuff my face and take the girls to their gymnastics class, grocery shopping, lunch and nap, followed with play time outside, dinner, shower and bedtime.

This morning, I was up at 0400 and I tried to fall back asleep to no avail. I finally got up at 0500 and got ready for this:

Skill: Tempo Front Squat 6×2 E2M

I paired up with Emily and I worked up my reps like this:

65#-75#-85#-90#-95#-100#

The last rep was hard to get up from the deep squat after 2 seconds at the bottom with 100# on my front shoulders, but I managed to do it and I was quite happy to get 100#.

WOD: Jeepers

I had done this one back in August and I had scaled it like this:

  • 10# wallballs
  • 35# AKBS
  • 200 single unders
  • finished in 17:30

Having re-read my post entry for it, I knew I had to challenge myself more today. I did so by doing these modifications:

  • 1000m row
  • 14# wallballs (all broken into sets of 5. I had to “no rep” myself so many times! They were hard!)
  • 35# AKBS (I failed 2 reps and felt like giving up altogether, but I kept at it)
  • 20 DUs and 80 single skips (I managed the 80 singles unbroken).
  • I finished in 19:52

We had to separate into heats and I was into the second heat. I was still chipping at it by the time the 0700 class started. I then came back home to this:
Rina had been up to no good again and decided to do some wall art with SHARPIES!!! She also decided to put “makeup” on Béatrice and it was all over her face and arms. Ben cleaned up Béa while I was attacking the wall with a Magic Eraser. I had nothing left in my arms after the WOD and it felt like a workout!

Once I was done and Rina was ready to go to school, Ben gave me the present of taking both girls with him for Rina’s drop-off while I got cooking on this Chili

I made a few modifications by using

  • 1lb extra-lean ground beef
  • 1 lb lean ground turkey
  • only 3 jalapeños peppers
  • I added 3 carrots 1/2lb mushrooms and 1 medium green bell pepper and 1/2lb crisp bacon

It smells delicious in the house right now and I can’t wait to eat it topped with some green onions, a dollop of sour cream and some grated cheddar cheese! It hasn’t been an easy 2 days, but then again, easy gives nothing!

Perfect Autumn Day

The day started very early with two little tiny ladies coming to join me in bed, at 0600 promptly. I had learned my lesson from yesterday and made sure I had 2 devices Netflix-ready in order to stay in bed until 0700! 😉

We then got up and I received a request from a fairy and a princess for some pancakes. My go-to recipe lately has been this Whole Wheat Greek Yogurt Pancakes by Veggies by Candlelight. I make mine with vanilla protein powder (for 1/2 the amount of whole wheat flour) and vanilla full-fat greek yogurt. There are a few things I don’t buy low-fat and greek yogurt is one of them. This recipe makes enough for 6 smaller pancakes, just perfect for the girls and I this morning.

Fairy princess helping getting ingredients out of the fridge!

Fairy princess helping getting ingredients out of the fridge!

We then took off for some more grocery shopping and I bought what I missed to make a version of this Roasted Butternut Squash Soup from Edible Sound Bites. I made mine a little different since I was using my InstantPot.

Perfection!

Perfection!

Here’s what I did:

Ingredients:

  • 1 large butternut squash, peeled and seeds removed, cubed
  • 1 large Spanish yellow onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1tbsp olive oil
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup almond/coconut milk
  • 1tsp mild curry powder
  • sea salt and pepper to taste

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400˚F.
  2. In a large bowl, toss the squash and onions with olive oil, minced garlic, salt and pepper. Line a baking tray with parchment paper and empty the bowl out, making sure the veggies are in an even layer. Sprinkle mild curry powder on vegetables. Roast for 30 minutes, stirring halfway through, until veggies are tender and golden brown.
  3. Transfer the roasted squash and onions to InstantPot; add the chicken stock and almond/coconut milk. Set on “Soup” for 40 minutes. Let the pressure naturally release.
  4. Purée the soup using an immersion blender or working in batches with a blender(I used my VitaMix and was done in no time) or food processor until you have a silk smooth soup. Careful it is pipping hot! Adjust seasonings to taste.
  5. To serve, ladle into bowls and top with 1-2 tbsp pomegranate seeds.

While this was cooking, I took the girls to a furniture store to have a look at some more sectionals for our living room. I’ve seen a few that could do, but since Ben is away, I haven’t made a decision or a purchase yet. Béatrice wanted to show she was very polite upon entering the last store we went to and proceeded to taking off her boots at the door. A few seconds later, she also took off her jacket. That’ll teach me to get her to take her shoes off as soon as she sets foot in the house! I guess she thought we were in a big house since the store was carpeted and there were couches and furniture all over the place! 😉

We came home to a ready to be puréed soup and after I quickly got this out of the way, we enjoyed a little burst of sunshine after a few days of rain and went to play outside (the girls) while we raked some leaves (me). For a small property without any big tree on it, I managed to fill half of our city compost bin and I didn’t even rake the entire yard. The rest will have to wait, maybe when the girls wake up from their nap. For now, Rina has asked me to make her this hat, in purple and white:

Fogtober Dreams and Ocean Breeze

After I was granted a LOA (Leave of Absence = an unpaid day off) for my night shift yesterday, I had a peaceful night in my bed. When my alarm went off this morning, I was right in the middle of a dream where I was hanging out with my girl (Camille Leblanc-Bazinet), just enjoying a beach day.

Source

Beach day with my girl crush… In my dreams! Source

I took it as a sign and got myself ready for the Box. I remember when I would wake up in the morning and dread getting ready for the workout. Now, I do it automatically. It’s become part of my routine and I don’t even question it anymore. It’s just something I do, without any doubt or question. Even if I know what the WOD is in advance, I rarely dread it anymore. I just show up and give it my all. No more questioning why I’m doing this to myself, but instead, I look at it at my chance to better myself. It’s something I am now looking forward to and it’s become easy to make it a priority in my schedule!

Skill: I’m still struggling with the snatch and OHS. Never mind combining the two together! 😉 I warmed up with 35# and ended up with only 40# before my bar. Form before weight.

WOD: IntervOHS 2

Pretty straightforward.  6 rounds of 4 x Hang Squat Snatch (40# for me) + 8 Box jumps (20″) on a 2-min timer. Your score is total of your fastest and slowest times together. Here were my rounds:

  1. 1:03
  2. 1:04
  3. 0:58
  4. 0:57
  5. 0:54
  6. 0:55

Total score = 1:57

I struggled with my 1st two rounds. Getting the bar stabilized overhead was eluding me and therefore, I was doing hang power snatch + OHS for those rounds. Then, it sort of clicked that I had to get under the bar all while pressing the bar overhead. It got a little easier, but it was still challenging at 40#.

I have to say, I’m looking forward to 2 days of rest. My legs are simply beat this week. From my glutes to my hamstrings and quads.  I’m very much looking forward to stretching and mobilizing throughout the weekend, whiteout doing a WOD. On the plus side, I guess all this soreness means I’m using my legs properly when squatting and lunging! 🙂

As I walked out of the Box after the WOD, the fog had rolled in, bringing with it the lovely sea breeze from the ocean, very much typical of October on the island. The parking lot smelled like the ocean. One perk to coastal / island living in Canada! 😉 Here was the view when I parked back home:

Fogtober at its best!

Also, I made a little u-turn to snap this picture on my way home. I drove past that scene and thought it was too cute to pass by without taking a picture:

New Gear Review and PRs All Around!

When I head outside early in the morning to go to the Box, my first instinct is to look up to the sky. This morning, as I looked up, I clearly saw the Big Dipper… at 0530… in the city. That’s how dark it was. The sky was full of stars and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. Unbeknownst to me, I would be out of the Box with the sun barely just starting to rise on the horizon. Autumn has officially arrived!

Warm-up: I managed to string 4x DUs in a row today! Wahoo!

Skill: Hang Power Snatch + OHS

I started low with these, but manage to PR by 10# when I was done. My last rep at 60# was ugly for the Hang Power Snatch, but very decent for the OHS. My reps were: 35#-40#-45#-50#-55#-60#

WOD: Row 2K

That’s right… 2K! I chose to go in the second heat because I knew I’d be slow and didn’t want to hold back anybody who had to go to work early. I thought for sure I would be around 15:00 for this one as I couldn’t remember what my 1K time was. I know I’m usually slow at rowing and I’m only 5’1″ so that’s a double whammy! Here was my strategy for this WOD:

  • I started slow for the 1st 750m, trying to maintain around 2:35 split.
  • From 750m to 1000m, I tried to up it to 2:30.
  • from 1000m to 1500m, I was aiming for 2:20, but often fell back to 2:25
  • from 1500m to 1750m, I was trying to maintain 2:15, but it was hard to maintain at times
  • from 1750m to 2000m, I tried to go below 2:10, which is pretty fast for me in the shortest distances. It was hard, but my head was in the right place and I just kept fighting for it. This was all mental and I went in with a fighter strategy / mantra and it seemed to work. I was able to keep my split low and I finished in 9:36.1! I was so happy to be sub 10:00!

Earlier last month, Fabletics finally became available in Canada and I signed up for it, not expecting it to be anything out of the ordinary. For my 1st order, I ended up ordering 3 pairs of capris, a t-shirt, a tank top and a cowl. Everything fits beautifully and I’m keeping it all. I haven’t updated my capris for working out since before we moved from Montreal (over 6 years ago) and it is time for me to spoil myself with a new wardrobe, now that I’m feeling more comfortable in my new body. I’ve worked hard for it and I’m proud of it!

The capris are all wonderful quality, thick, but not too thick and soft and they all pass the “squat test”, meaning, they don’t go see through when you squat deep! I like that at 5’1″, they are still capris, even on my short person! They do fall off a bit when you do high impact activities and I found out quickly doing DUs and burpees in the warm-up today.

As for the tank top, I put it through the test this morning at the WOD. It has a built-in bra that offers medium support. Although it looks nice, it is definitely not a bra I will wear for high impact WODs. I will probably keep this one for around the house or for chasing the girls!

Here are the pictures of the outfits I’m keeping:

I came back home after the WOD and went to run some errands before setting out to cook lunch. I had a friend coming over and even though Rina isn’t feeling well (fever and sores in her mouth, I guess it’s her turn to have hand/foot/mouth disease), it was a very lovely lunch with great company!

Tomorrow, I plan on cooking for the potluck on Sunday. Not only am I participating in my 1st Crossfit competition, it’s also a potluck! Gotta make sure to fuel these athletes! 😉
