Being Bloated Blows

Notice the nice alliteration in the title?!? Yep! That’s what you get from someone who almost finished her B.A in English Lit! Nice to see those 3 years of university REALLY paid off! Lol!

Yep, if you refer to the Whole30 timeline, I’ve hit the bloated stage, right on target! Bleh! My abdomen is already not the smallest to begin with, now I look like a stuffed sausage when I try to fit in my workout pants and shorts. Still, it didn’t deter me from going to the 0600 WOD for this:

Skill: (Hang power clean x2 + Push press/ jerk x2) EMOM x10

I may have been bloated, but dang, I was ready for this fun stuff. My left shoulder and trap have been bugging me lately, but I still wanted to work somewhat hard on theses. I settled for 65#  and did Push jerks all the way and it felt really, really good. I felt like I could have kept going for more rounds when we were done and I managed to correct my landing on the power clean after Coach Caleb gave me tips. I wasn’t landing wider than my beginning stance and felt comfortable correcting that little thing!

WOD: Pulp

There were 14 of us so we split up into two random heats and I was into the 1st one. I decided on FG with the red and orange bands for the pull-ups and made the mental commitment to do all my HRPU Rx. Here’s how it went.

First round of HRPU I did 10, rested and then did sets of 5 to the end. My left shoulder was getting unnerved and I was happy when I was done this round. Onto the rig I went and I split up my reps as such:

4-3-3-3-3-2-2

Those were hard, I won’t lie. Back on the floor I went for my second round of HRPU:

5-5-5-5-5-5

Onto the rig I went. I split up my pull-ups like this:

2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2

I was the last one of my heat to finish (not surprisingly) at 8:44. Not bad. My shoulder was really bugging me by then and I was glad I was done. Ryan killed it doing it the Comp version with the weighted vest and Tracey was simply amazing to watch as she fought for every pull-up Rx. She was doing them with a 2-kip motion and she was out of this world!

I came back home and felt like I had a ton of energy left. I showered, made breakfast for the girls while my other half made me coffee (with Whole30 unsweetened almond milk!) and once everybody was good for breakfast, I made myself this wonderful plate:

Photo 2015-06-17, 8 30 15 AM

That was the perfect breakfast. AS you can see, I had already started to eat it but still wanted to capture all the gorgeous colours of this plate! My breakfast consisted of:

  • 2 eggs, over easy
  • unsweetened salsa
  • 1/2 avocado
  • 1 yellow bell pepper
  • my hubby-made coffee

It was perfect and it hit the spot. I have no problem getting my pre-WOD snack in (usually chicken and a few nuts) in the optimal time range, but I really struggle to get my post-WOD one in on time. It’s usually around 1hr post WOD that I’m able to sit down and get some fuel in my body. Meh! I’m a busy mom/wife and will always make sure the little ones are fed so my hubby can get out the door on time for school drop-off or gymnastics. When they’re older and more autonomous, I’ll work on getting my recovery meal in on time! 🙂

Once I was done with breakfast, I loaded up the dishwasher, finished the laundry and cleaned upstairs. That took 2hrs and then it was time for school pick-up! Phew! I think I will crash when I nap before work tonight!

Easter Saturday

I started my weekend with an unexpected night off from work and that made it the best night ever because it meant I could tag along with Ben and the girls for the Easter Egg Hunt he had registered them for!

I woke up early this morning and walked up to the reservoir with my trusted Duke to watch the sun rise above the clouds:

It seemed like the park had put on its Easter colour scheme to celebrate for tomorrow:

Nature does it best! Purple and yellow flowers for Easter

I came back home, cleaned up and made breakfast before we headed on out for the girl Easter Egg Hunt organized by the Rec Centre. Béa called the bunny “the Monster Bunny” so I’m not sure she was impressed with the whole thing, but I think they had fun chasing the few eggs left around:

We then went around to get some dog food and had lunch. When we came back home, it was time for the girls to nap and while Ben was taking care of the lawn and the compost, I finally came around to doing the Burpees and Double Unders workout from StayFitMom. I had to take a few breaks for the rounds of 25 and 20 burpees and I have to admit that the rounds of 50 and 40 DUs took me quite a long time with A LOT of single reps mixed in with even more whipping of the legs/butt/arms/shins in-between. I did, however, manage to string 8 DUs in a row (once) and a few 7 and 6 in a row as well, which is a new PR for me! 🙂

When all was said and done, it took me 24:17 to finish it all. Here’s what I looked like after:

Yep! I'm pooped!

Now the girls are up, eating candy (bedtime should be fun… NOT) and I have to go wash up before dinnertime. Hop you all have a fun-filled Happy Easter!

24 Hours

I finished work yesterday morning and had to drop my car off to the garage in order to get my bumper fixed (from the time I got rear-ended 2 weeks ago). I had to wait for a good 30mins for the rental company to come pick me up, drive me to the rental place and sign all the paperwork before driving home in my rental car. I finally get home, have a quick bath and head off to slumberland.

A measly 4hrs later, I wake up. I feel drunk and hungover all at once at 2pm. Add to that my burning sore throat and I know I’m already praying for the girls to go to bed early. I go downstairs to meet up with Nanny. She has agreed to stay until 5pm, to help me out with the girls. ❤ her! She then proceeds to tell me Rina has been complaining of an earache and still has a fever. I wait until she wakes up from her nap and we head on out to the walk-in clinic. We get there at 4:15pm, and the receptionist tells me the doctor won’t be in until 5pm. We sit down and wait. Rina seems to have a burst of energy and I find myself questioning if this is at all necessary. I decide to suck it up and get her ears checked anyway. Good thing too, she has a blaring ear infection. We walk out with a prescription for antibiotics and go get it filled at the nearby drugstore.

Upon arriving back home, Nanny opens with this:

Weird thing. When Béa woke up from her nap, she was bottom naked and I couldn’t find her diaper anywhere. I’ve turned her room upside-down and cannot find it anywhere.

I go upstairs, check her entire room and cannot locate the mysteriously vanished diaper. I do find out that BeZU has wet her bed, so I proceed to change her bedding and put everything in the wash. Nanny helps out with dinner and then takes off for the night. I clean up, wolf down dinner for myself and we all head on upstairs for our communal shower. As I get the girls undressed, here’s what I find:

Photo 2015-02-04, 6 13 41 PM

Case of the mysterious disappearing diaper solved! Béa was wearing it around her waist, under another diaper AND a pair of undies. A girl can never be too safe! We shower, then relax on the couch before I put the girls down for what I hope will be  along night of peaceful sleep.

I come back downstairs, plop myself on the couch and watch The Bachelor while I knit for a little bit. I finally head upstairs to bed at 9:30pm after fighting to keep my eyes open for a good 30 mins. I fall asleep almost instantly. Such a glamorous life! Husband walks in sometime later, kisses me goodnight and we talk a little while before I fall back asleep.

1am, I get woken up by Rina walking in our room: “I can’t sleep Mommy!” Alright, climb in and go back to sleep. She keeps moving around, sniffling and couching… for the next 2 hrs before I’ve reached my limit and send her back to her own bed. I was planning on getting up at 5am to go to my Oly class, but I’m just too darn tired and sick. Ugh. Another Oly class missed. 😦

6:30am, Béa walks in, crying. I pull her into bed where she sits next to my head. After about 30mins, I feel something wet on my pillowcase and on my hand. It’s also on my shoulder. As any mom would do, I smell my hand: it smells like sh**. Literally.

I wake up at once, check Béa’s diaper and she has poop coming out of her back. Great. I pick her up, she’s crying, plop her into the bathtub where I strip her down and hose her down. We both head into the shower for a thorough rub down while Ben strips the bed for the second morning in a row. I forgot to mention BeZU puked mucus in our bed yesterday morning. I had poop on my shoulder. Yuk!

Ben puts everything in the washing machine and we head downstairs for breakfast. It’s still raining and I’m slowly getting angrier. Once breakfast is done, I head back upstairs, clean the bathtub and Ben and I fix our bed. I then do our budget for the month and tally Nanny’s pay cheque. All before 10am. I sure hope this day brightens up. At least, I have Crossfit to look up to tomorrow! The girls are now sitting quietly next to me.

Up To My Eyeballs In Poo

That’s right! Let me explain.

Béatrice has taken it upon herself to gradually potty-train herself. That means she wears pull-ups during the day and she lets us know, of her own free will when she needs to pee or when she has peed in her diaper. Sometimes she’ll make it to her potty or the toilet, sometimes, she doesn’t and we just change her pull-up. Fine by me, I’m not really stressing out about it since she just turned 2. My problem is with her poop. She doesn’t go on a daily basis and when she does go, it’s usually in her bed, at nap time, and it usually ends up EVERYWHERE: on her clothes, on her bed sheets, on the mattress cover as well as her duvet cover. Which means that I’ve been washing her entire beddings pretty much every other day. The whole process takes close to 1hr because of all this:

  • I put Béatrice in the bath tub and strip her down. I then use the telephone shower to hose her down and soap her up real good. I rinse her, then dry her. We put on a new diaper, new clothes and she usually goes to play with Rina downstairs.
  • I then hose her clothes down in the tub or in the bathroom sink before I go strip her bed. I then rinse all the stained bed sheets in the tub as well, before putting away all the poopy laundry in the washing machine.
  • I go back upstairs to clean her mattress (thank goodness she still has a crib mattress that is covered in vinyl and wipes up easily) before I put new bed sheets on her bed.
  • Finally, I go back to the washroom to clean the sink and the bath tub.

We’re gonna have to put her back in diapers for her naps if she keeps this up because I’m getting fed up very quickly of this crappy routine (pun intended)!

If you have any tricks you’d like to share with us, please let us know. My husband, myself and the Nanny would be eternally grateful if we didn’t have to wipe poop off Béatrice’s bed for the next little while!

Husband-ism

Last night, my wonderful husband let me indulge in a recent guilty pleasure: I recently started watching all the season of Gilmore Girls on Netflix.

We were watching the episode where Lorelai gets engaged to Max and her mom finds out from Sookie. I then asked Ben if he was prepared to have a boy, one day, ask for Rina’s hand in marriage. Below was his response:

Well, the first one will get shot, so, she better not like him too much!

That made me laugh. I guess Daddy will have some issues to deal with as the girls get older! 😉

Another guilty pleasure I finally caved into this morning is this podcast:

Serial podcast

Serial podcast

I’m currently on episode 3 and it gets more and more intriguing. I always like murder/mystery type shows (Dateline, Law & Order: SVU, etc) and this is a good one to add to my list. I had heard a lot about the podcast lately and finally gave in… I think it will be hard to choose between Gilmore Girls and Serial when the girls go for nap this afternoon to accompany my knitting!

In other news, Rina had been hit with her second bout of coxsackie virus (Hand, foot and mouth disease) over the past few days and we went out for our usual Sunday morning breakfast. She asked for pancakes, her first solid meal in 4 days and she has been up and playing with Béatrice since we got back. I may have been involved in a little Princess role-play, but I will deny it if pressed for it! 🙂

Also, Béatrice has been asking to use the potty and the toilet on a regular basis, without being prompted by us! Looks like potty-training will be a breeze for this little smarty-pants! Look at how cute she was yesterday, all snuggled-up with her dad:

RX Baby!

It is now 1130 and I’m ready for nap. I woke up at 0300 because Béatrice was having a bad dream and just as I was about to fall back asleep around 0345, the hubster started snoring… That was it for my night. I tossed and turned in bed, but I never regained the land of the unconscious. The wind was howling outside and the downpour of rain sounded pretty impressive against the window panes, nothing to make me want to get out of bed. I then looked at the WOD. It didn’t help with getting me out of bed.

Legs day! Squats, rowing and running! I got ready and was waiting in the parking lot at 0530. There was no point in me staying home and tiptoeing around to avoid waking everybody up. At least, in the car, I can listen to the radio and catch up on the current events happening in town.

I managed to do 3×7 K2E during the warmup and they felt somewhat decent with a little kip. Could it be that I’ll finally be able to do a T2B sometime this year?!?

Skill: Back squat 5×5 E90S

I paired up with Jackie and started my way up from 80#. Reps were as follows:

80#-85#-90#-95#-100#

I thought about going a bit lighter to save my legs for the WOD, but then, I just couldn’t!

WOD: Aerobix

I partnered up with Chris and it turned out to be a really good partnership. We pretty much didn’t have any rest time as we were of equal strength (my running was pretty much to his rowing speed and vice versa). We decided to go RX and although we were the last team to finish, we managed to do so just under the 30 mins mark. We finished in 29:49. I was so proud of myself for running non-stop all the intervals. The hardest one was definitely the 600m run and the 750m row. I was struggling to keep my pace below 2:30/500m on the Erg. Running in the rain and wind was fun (?) and it was nice and refreshing. The downside was my feet got wet in no time and my socks were drenched, but I didn’t care. I just wanted to give it my best and not disappoint my partner!

I rushed back home to have a quick shower, breakfast and coffee (priorities!) and hauled the girls to Rina’s preschool. They were having an outing at the Empress Hotel to go see the Christmas trees. Every year, there is a Christmas tree exhibit and you can vote for your favourite and give a donation. The donations go towards the BC Children’s Hospital. It was fun, but Béatrice got tired quickly which meant I had to carry her for most of the 2hrs we were there. I’m pooped!

I hope the girls nap this afternoon so I’ll be able to do the same on the couch!

Tired

Lately, all I’ve been thinking about is sleeping in and going away on a trip with my hubby, without the kiddos. I know this will be impossible for at least the next 12-14 years, but I’ve been craving some R&R real bad. A girl can always dream, right?

Yes please!

Yes please!

I have a friend who lives in the Bahamas… Maybe I should go pay her a visit! 😉 Instead of sleeping in, I woke up at 0500 and got ready for the 0600 class at Crossfit.

Skill: Back squat 6×3 E2M

I just wanted to repeat my PR of 105#, but do the reps properly this time, instead of feeling all wonky on the drive up. I not only managed to do that, I also PR’d by 5# going up to 110# and not being too wonky on my form as well! 🙂

WOD: Clingy

This was a tough one. I was struggling for the ring dips on the red band, so I opted to do 7x HRPU instead. I also chose to scale down for the hang power cleans and did all my reps at 55#. It was hard hanging on to the bar, even after the last rep. If we dropped the bar, we had an automatic penalty of 8 burpees. Nobody did burpees this morning! I managed 8 full rounds and 4 hang power cleans before the 15 mins were over for a total score of 172 (FG1). I was pretty happy with my score and felt completely spent. I came home to a quick breakfast of sausage and homemade guacamole, before tackling 2 loads of laundry, cleaning the upstairs and both bathroom while Ben was dropping Rina off to preschool. I managed to do all the cleaning and laundry and now, I am very much looking forward to the girls nap this afternoon, so I can knit a bit. I’m also looking forward to my own nap before my night shift tonight. I can tell I will sleep soundly for those glorious 2 hrs, I’m so spent! Off I go to pick up my little preschooler! Hope you have a wonderful day!
