RX Baby!

It is now 1130 and I’m ready for nap. I woke up at 0300 because Béatrice was having a bad dream and just as I was about to fall back asleep around 0345, the hubster started snoring… That was it for my night. I tossed and turned in bed, but I never regained the land of the unconscious. The wind was howling outside and the downpour of rain sounded pretty impressive against the window panes, nothing to make me want to get out of bed. I then looked at the WOD. It didn’t help with getting me out of bed.

Legs day! Squats, rowing and running! I got ready and was waiting in the parking lot at 0530. There was no point in me staying home and tiptoeing around to avoid waking everybody up. At least, in the car, I can listen to the radio and catch up on the current events happening in town.

I managed to do 3×7 K2E during the warmup and they felt somewhat decent with a little kip. Could it be that I’ll finally be able to do a T2B sometime this year?!?

Skill: Back squat 5×5 E90S

I paired up with Jackie and started my way up from 80#. Reps were as follows:

80#-85#-90#-95#-100#

I thought about going a bit lighter to save my legs for the WOD, but then, I just couldn’t!

WOD: Aerobix

I partnered up with Chris and it turned out to be a really good partnership. We pretty much didn’t have any rest time as we were of equal strength (my running was pretty much to his rowing speed and vice versa). We decided to go RX and although we were the last team to finish, we managed to do so just under the 30 mins mark. We finished in 29:49. I was so proud of myself for running non-stop all the intervals. The hardest one was definitely the 600m run and the 750m row. I was struggling to keep my pace below 2:30/500m on the Erg. Running in the rain and wind was fun (?) and it was nice and refreshing. The downside was my feet got wet in no time and my socks were drenched, but I didn’t care. I just wanted to give it my best and not disappoint my partner!

I rushed back home to have a quick shower, breakfast and coffee (priorities!) and hauled the girls to Rina’s preschool. They were having an outing at the Empress Hotel to go see the Christmas trees. Every year, there is a Christmas tree exhibit and you can vote for your favourite and give a donation. The donations go towards the BC Children’s Hospital. It was fun, but Béatrice got tired quickly which meant I had to carry her for most of the 2hrs we were there. I’m pooped!

I hope the girls nap this afternoon so I’ll be able to do the same on the couch!

A Good Day

I went to bed last night in the middle of a pretty intense windstorm. Nothing unusual for the island in the fall/winter. The pattern is usually rain for a few days, windstorm, sunny day, repeat. Ever since we moved into our new house, the windstorms make me very uneasy. I don’t know if it’s because we’re not on the lower level of our house and I feel/hear the wind more, but I just keep having to reassure myself that the house has been here since 1918 and it has seen plenty of windstorms. It’s probably sturdy enough to weather a few more! 😉

Once again, I was up way before my alarm (set at 0500). I stayed in bed, trying to fall back asleep and got up in the end to go to Crossfit. I really wish I didn’t have to see 0430 on the alarm clock some days! Sleeping has become a luxury and I long for the days I used to sleep in until 1000-1100!

Skill: Kipping pull-ups 5x20sec E2M

I was determined to challenge myself with this today and I decided to forgo the red and blue bands and used the red and purple bands instead. I was happy to manage 5-7 reps/ rounds with these and I really focused on working on the follow-through at the bottom. I managed to do a max of 3 in a row and that was good enough for me!

WOD: Grunt

As we were warming-up for this one, Coach Caleb came by to assess our Hang power snatches and I had planned on doing the TG with the empty bar. Doing 5 reps with the bar alone was challenging enough, let alone 8 reps x 5 rounds. Upon Coach Caleb’s examination, he suggested I added weight to my bar because I looked “very powerful”. Dave got into it as well and I was convinced to add 10# for a total of 45#. I did the first round unbroken, but had to break them into 2×4 reps for all the other rounds. I did all my rounds with the TG modifications:

  • 8x Hang power snatch @45#
  • 10 Hand Release Push-ups (all on my toes)
  • 10 double crunches

I finished with a time of 13:14 and was pretty happy about this. The Hang power snatches were a real struggle for all my second sets (#5-8). I was afraid of dropping the bar on all my last reps, but I pushed through and managed to do it all! Thanks to Dave and Coach Caleb for convincing me to go heavier! 🙂

Before we started the WOD, I jumped on the rig and attempted a few T2B. I’m not quite there yet, but I,m getting so close, I can taste it!

I came home to shower and decided to do my hair. When I came back downstairs, Rina was staring and saying: “Wow! Beautiful hair mom!” LOL! The girls are not used to me taking time to pretty myself up!

All dolled-up!

All dolled-up and nowhere to go!

Then, I guess Béatrice was inspired to doll herself up as well because she kept asking for a “ponytail”. After Rina had butchered her hair earlier this week and fellow Crossfitter Jordan fixed it up for her, I was skeptical about my ability to pull off a ponytail, but she seemed happy with the end result!

Now, I get to spend the day with Ben and the girls and enjoy this beautiful sun with the family! 🙂

Busy bees on a busy day!

Sweet Rina,

We woke up this morning and wanted to go do our jog with Jess and Alexis, but there was this crazy windstorm all night (up to 140km/hr) and there was now way we were gonna go push strollers and babies in crazy winds (I think it was down to 80-110km/hr by then, but still!)

Instead, Jess invited me to go with her to a baby massage class. It was cheap ($3) and we weren’t doing anything else so we went. It was actually a lot of fun! At the beginning, you and Alexis were cooing to one another. It looked like you were chatting to each other. Then, you were crying in response to one another! That made me laugh! Whenever you would stop crying, Alexis would pick it up and vice versa. Eventually, you fell asleep in my arms until I put you down on the mat. You woke up and I was able to give you a bit of a back massage while you had a blast impressing everyone with your how well you supported your head while being on your tummy. In total, there were 4 babies including you at the session and I’m sad to announce that you were the most hair challenged baby there! 😉 There was another baby born on the same day as you who had enough hair to make you a wig and she still would’ve had enough hair for herself! She was also quite bigger than you, but don’t you worry, I love you just the way you are and I wouldn’t change you for anything in the world!

We came back home and I grabbed a quick bite to eat while you remained asleep in your car seat and then we met up (again!) with Jess and Alexis for our run. We went a bit slower than on Monday, but it wasn’t so bad considering I’m still battling a cold and it was still pretty windy out there! We came back home just in time to feed you and Jenn came by for a visit. I forgot to take pictures of you with her. I’ll have to remember next time we see her! She is leaving for a well deserved vacation under the sun so it’ll have to wait until she gets back.

You are now asleep in your bed and I just finished eating dinner. I’m currently watching House Hunters while waiting for Survivor to begin! I’ll do some stretches/yoga in front of the TV and tomorrow: Pilates all the way with the Challenges, just to switch things up a bit!

Sleep well my love!
